I used to work with a man who said "Merry Christmas" to people all year long. His point was that the birth of Christ is a blessing that we can enjoy all the time . . . i.e., every day is Christmas. The same should be true for Valentine's Day . . . or at least in my case.
If you have a wonderful wife, as I do, then each day should be Valentine's. Not just on February 14th, but every day, we should shower our wives with affection (whatever says "I LOVE YOU" to them).
Unfortunately, I often fail to remind her every day how much I love and appreciate her (just like Christmas).
As many men, I could do what our society has set as the standard for V-day (e.g., flowers, card, chocolate), or I could try to do something BIG (perhaps to make up for the past year). Several things come to mind that she would appreciate. Unfortunately, finances seem to be more restricting than ever (sorry sweetie, no trip to Italy this weekend).
However, this year I have decided to make a renewed (and public) commitment to love my wife each day the way she deserves, how CHRIST wants me to, and as an overflow of how my heart feels.
Lesli,
I am sorry that I have not shown you each day the love GOD has given me for you and expressed how much I appreciate who you are and what you have done for me, our family, and those around you. There is no one like you, and I would choose no other to be my wife and the mother of our children.
ILY
